Welcome to the end of capitalism.
This isn’t a conversation about what comes next – I suspect it’s likely to be a different form of capitalism. This is simply a space for us to observe the death spiral of American capitalism.
I don’t mean the business cycle or the stock market or unemployment or underemployment or any of those other indicators of the economy’s health. This space is designed for thinking about the rot that has set in underneath the central pillars of American capitalism.
And these issues are specific to American capitalism – there are places across the globe where capitalism is healthy and it contributes greatly to society and global wealth. But the brand of capitalism being practiced in America right now appears to have reached a cyclic exhaustion.
So join us as we watch in real time and try to examine the symptoms, the causes and the attempted cures.
